The global opportunity
Dolphyn is a green hydrogen solution to a global hydrogen opportunity.
The world’s best wind resources are in areas of deep water, exploitable for renewable energy using floating offshore wind technology.
Dolphyn Hydrogen is working with organisations across the world to identify and prioritise areas close to major hydrogen hubs, in geographies with accelerated ambitions for hydrogen.
The ability for scalability is a key part of why Dolphyn is an optimum low carbon green hydrogen solution.
Dolphyn was born from a common understanding that we need to move quickly to meet net zero and realise the opportunity of a green hydrogen economy for society.
We have taken a steppingstone approach to support the commercial development of Dolphyn. Our deployment timeline is beginning in the United Kingdom with large scale acceleration plans across the world.

Dolphyn Trials
The purpose of the trials is to produce hydrogen in an offshore environment and test key elements of the hydrogen production system. These trials will provide proof of design for all core components of the Dolphyn process and alongside our commercial scale demonstrator deployment, will provide full readiness for Dolphyn deployment at scale.
These trials offer a critical step on our journey by providing learning and performance data in real world conditions, enabling commercial scale projects to be developed with confidence.
The system will be developed in 20ft ISO containers for ease of transportation and installation. These are to be co-located on a flat deck barge that can be moored at the testing location, in the pre-consented Marine Energy Test Area (META) site(s), near Pembroke Port and operated by Marine Energy Wales. The test rig will include all systems required for the safe and remote operation of the trial including water treatment/storage, electrolysis, power generation, control systems, hydrogen metering, and vent systems.
The trial will take place in the nearshore marine environment, consisting of short tests over 1-2 days at a time, across approximately 1 month. The production capacity will be in the range of 100-200kW.
Commercial Demonstrator (10MW)
Commercial Demonstrator, 2025.
With the support of UK Government, we aim to deploy a single 10-megawatt (MW) Commercial scale Dolphyn demonstrator unit, approximately 15km south east of Aberdeen, in Scotland. This will be the first commercial scale ultra low-carbon green hydrogen from floating offshore wind project, contributing regionally to Aberdeen’s Hydrogen vision as well as responding to Scotland’s and UK Government 2030 hydrogen production ambitions.
Commercial Developments (100-300MW)
“Stepping Stone” Commercial Developments, 2027- 2028
We are looking to deploy a number of 100-300-megawatt “stepping stone” commercial development in various locations including the North Sea, the Celtic Sea and other international locations. These deployments will provide an opportunity to further refine the technology and to build out the supply chain.
Each of these developments will ideally lead further expansion, providing opportunities for significant hydrogen offtake and decarbonisation prior to 2030. Successful deployment would assist national and regional global governments and businesses in achieving their 2030 energy transition targets.
Large scale Commercial Developments (GW scale)
Large scale commercial developments (GW Scale), early 2030’s.
We aim to work with Governments, energy developers and funders to identify and develop opportunities for deployment of Dolphyn developments (GW scale) at multiple locations globally. We believe such projects will provide material opportunities for businesses and governments to achieve their net zero ambitions, and we are seeking like-minded partners to help us achieve our vision.

With the support of UK Government, Dolphyn aims to deploy a Commercial Scale Demonstrator unit as part of a first phase commercial scale project before 2030. This will be the first commercial scale ultra low-carbon green hydrogen from floating offshore wind project, contributing to the UK Governments 2030 hydrogen production ambitions.

Ultra Low-Carbon Hydrogen Innovation
The Dolphyn process is an award-winning, first of a kind innovation, combining the most advanced floating wind and electrolysis technologies. Within the Dolphyn process we aim to use technologies that are the most proven, with the highest Technical Readiness Level (TRL). Safety, robustness and low environmental impact are all key considerations for us. The hydrogen is produced via desalinisation of seawater. It is an ultra-low-carbon fuel which produces only water vapour when combusted.
Ultra Low-Carbon Hydrogen Innovation
The use of floating wind technology allows Dolphyn to be located in areas of deep water where wind resources are optimum and large scale developments (Gigawatt scale) are achievable.
The hydrogen is transported ashore via pipeline to areas of demand. Users will include transport, industry (as heat source and as a chemical feedstock), power generation and gas distribution (blending with and replacing natural gas).
